Russian Railways purchased 493 new locomotives in 2016
Under its investment programme, Russian Railways spent 67.9 billion roubles on upgrading its locomotive fleet in 2016.
In total, the Company purchased 493 units of rolling stock, including 261 electric train engines consisting of 218 freight and 43 passenger locomotives.
Russian Railways also purchased 232 diesel locomotives, including 118 freight, 15 passenger and 2 combined cargo-and-passenger engines.
In addition, the Company acquired 97 shunting locomotives.
In accordance with the Company’s modernisation and service life extension programme, 1,608 locomotive sections were renovated in 2016, including 1,016 diesel locomotive sections and 592 electric locomotive sections. The Company spent 5.6 billion roubles on this programme.
