Construction of Northern Latitudinal Railway to start in 2019

A foundation stone was laid on May 11 for a bridge over the River Ob which is to be built as part of the 353 km Northern Latitudinal Railway. Attendees included Russian Railways President Oleg Belozerov, Minister of Transport Maxim Sokolov and Governor of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District Dmitry Kobylkin.


RZD awards 327-loco supply and maintenance contracts

Transmashholding has signed two contracts to supply main line locomotives to Russian Railways. For the first time TMH will take sole responsibility for whole-life maintenance of locos it has supplied to the national operator.


Three-section diesel locomotive approved

Transmashholding’s Bryansk Engineering Plant has obtained certification for its three-section 3TE25K2M diesel locomotive, which has been designed to haul 7 100 tonne freight trains on the 2 800 km Baikal-Amur Magistral route between Taksimo, Tynda, Komsomolsk-na-Amure and Sovetskaya Gavan on the Pacific coast.


Moscow Central Diameter rolling stock supplier selected

Central Suburban Passenger Co selected sole bidder Tver Carriage Works for a contract to supply rolling stock to operate on Moscow Central Diameter routes on March 5.


Modified Yermak locomotive on test

Trials are underway with a three-section 3ES5K Yermak 25 kV 50 Hz locomotive rated at 9·2 MW which has been modified by TMH’s Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Works.


Five-year rail supply contract signed

Steelmaker Evraz has signed a five-year agreement to supply Russian Railways with a total of 3·2 million tonnes of rail worth 111·7bn roubles.


Russian Railways orders EMUs

Transmahsholding subsidiary Demikhovsky Engineering Plant has signed a 5bn rouble contract to supply 22 four-car Class EP3D electric multiple-units to Russian Railways from February.

Demikhovsky Engineering Plant’s 2·3bn rouble purchase of Moscow oblast’s 25% plus one share stake in Central Suburban Passenger Co has been approved by the federal anti-monopoly service.


Тransmashholding invests in Argentina

Transmashholding of Russia is to spend US$3m to refurbish and reopen the Mechita rolling stock workshops in the province of Buenos Aires, under the terms of an agreement signed on December 20 by Franco Comparato, representing its local subsidiary TMH Argentina, and Trenes Argentinos Infraestructura President Guillermo Fiad.


Russia adopts piggyback wagon standards

The Ministry of Transport has approved technical standards for the piggyback transport of lorries, trailers and cars by rail, including the adoption of a standard floor height of 1 100 mm above the rail head.
